§ 8.12.010. County provisions adopted.

Except as hereinafter provided, Title 32, Fire Code, of the Los Angeles County Code, as amended and in effect on January 1, 2023, adopting the California Fire Code, 2022 Edition (California Code of Regulations Title 24, Part 9), is hereby incorporated herein by reference as if fully set forth herein, and shall be known and may be cited as the fire code of the city of Palos Verdes Estates. In the event of any conflict between provisions of the California Fire Code, 2022 Edition, Title 32 of the Los Angeles County Code, or any amendment to the fire code contained in the Palos Verdes Estates Municipal Code, the provision contained in the latter listed document shall control. A copy of Title 32 of the Los Angeles County Code and the California Fire Code, 2022 Edition, has been deposited in the office of the city clerk and shall be at all times maintained by the city clerk for use and examination by the public.

§ 8.12.020. Fire hazard severity map.

The fire hazard severity zone map entitled “City of Palos Verdes Estates Fire Hazard Severity Zones” dated March 24, 2025, as set forth in Exhibit A to the ordinance codified in this section, is hereby approved. The official map is also located on the city website at www.pvestates.org. (Ord. 683 § 1, 2008; Ord. 701 § 2 (Exh. 1), 2012; Ord. 768 § 3, 2025)

§ 8.12.030. Amendments to the Los Angeles County fire code.

  • A. Notwithstanding the provisions of PVEMC § 8.12.010, Section 503.4 of Title 32 of the Los Angeles County Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

503.4 Obstruction to fire apparatus access roads. Fire apparatus access roads shall not be obstructed in any manner, including the parking of vehicles. The minimum widths and clearances established in Section 503.2.1 shall be maintained at all times in accordance with California Vehicle Code section 22500.1.

  • B. Notwithstanding the provisions of PVEMC § 8.12.010, Title 32 of the Los Angeles County Code is hereby amended to delete Section 503.4.1.

§ 8.12.040. Violation – Penalty.

Every person violating any provision of Title 32, Los Angeles County Fire Code and appendices, adopted by reference by PVEMC § 8.12.010, or of any permit or license granted thereunder, or any rules or regulations promulgated pursuant thereto, is guilty of a misdemeanor. Upon conviction thereof he or she shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars or imprisonment not to exceed six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. The imposition of such penalty for any violation shall not excuse the violation or permit it to continue. Each day that a violation occurs shall constitute a separate offense. (Ord. 710 § 3, 2014)
