Sec. 19A.3. - Beach.¶
[The term "beach" shall mean] the zone of unconsolidated material that extends landward from the low-water line to the place where there is marked change in material or physiographic form, or to the line of permanent vegetation. The seaward limit of a beach, unless otherwise specified, is the mean low-water line.

Sec. 19A.4. - Bluff.¶
[The term "bluff" shall mean] an escarpment or steep face of rock, sediment or soil resulting from erosion, faulting, folding or excavation of land mass, with a vertical relief, which can be planned, curbed or steplike in section, of ten (10) feet or more and whose face is or may be subject to erosion by waive action.

Sec. 19A.5. - Breakwater.¶
[The term "breakwater" shall mean] a structure built offshore and/or connected to the shore in deep water to protect a shore area, harbor, vessel mooring area or yacht basin from wave damage. The breakwater may be built above or submerged in deep water offshore of a beach to attenuate waves and protect the shore.
Sec. 19A.6. - Cliff bulkhead wall.¶
[The term "cliff bulkhead" shall mean] a structure constructed at the base or toe of a cliff or bluff and extended upward to the inland area to support a vertical or nearly vertical earth bank and prevent the sliding of the cliff or bluff and to also protect the toe of the cliff or bluff from wave-induced erosion.

Sec. 19A.7. - Emergency.¶
[The term "emergency" shall mean] a sudden unexpected occurrence demanding immediate action to prevent or mitigate loss or damage to life, health, property or essential public services.

Sec. 19A.8. - Groin.¶
[The term "groin" shall mean] a shore protection structure or system of structures usually built normal (or perpendicular) to shore to retain sand or retard erosion of the shore.

Sec. 19A.9. - Revetment/riprap.¶
[The term "revetment" or "riprap" shall mean] an armoring of a beach face or bluff with stone or concrete randomly placed by layering, facing or mounding to protect against erosion, scouring or sloughing of a structure or embankment by wave action.

Sec. 19A.10. - Seawall.¶
[The term "seawall" shall mean] a structure separating land and water areas, primarily designed to prevent erosion of the shoreline and damage to upland properties due to wave action.

Sec. 19A.11. - Other shoreline structures.¶
[The term "other shoreline structures" shall mean] any other structures that interact with coastal zone processes to redirect longshore and tidal currents and cause or stabilize erosion or deposition of sediments.
