10.50.010 Parking or placing an object in designated fire lane prohibited.

City of Murrieta Fire Lane Ordinance

No person shall park any vehicle or place any object in any fire lane, clearly designated as such by markings that state "FIRE LANE NO PARKING" and/or other appropriate notice, or park or place any object, obstruction on vehicle in on or across an established or designated exit, driveway, alleyway or access road, whether public or private, in such manner as to hamper the movement of any emergency vehicles and equipment in the event of fire or other emergency. This prohibition applies to, but is not limited to, areas in and about any church, hospital, assembly hall, lodge hall, school, hotel, motel, condominium, apartment building, theater, industrial complex, shopping center, restaurant, tent, or any other place of public assembly, whether open or closed.

10.50.020 Violation subject to infraction and/or removal.

Any vehicle parked or any object placed in a fire lane or any of the aforementioned areas shall be subject to an infraction citation and/or immediate removal and storage pursuant to the law.

10.50.030 Exceptions--Delivery vehicle loading and unloading in fire lane.

Vehicles may be stopped in a designated fire lane under the following guidelines and conditions:

  1. Delivery vehicles shall be allowed, in commercial and industrial areas, to stop in fire lanes for the express purpose of loading or unloading said vehicle. Vehicle shall be allowed to remain in the fire lane only while actively loading and unloading. During the time the vehicle is stopped the driver shall remain in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle, and move said vehicle immediately if directed by any public official. Maximum time a delivery vehicle shall be allowed to remain in a fire lane shall in no instances exceed twenty (20) minutes.

10.50.040 Painted curbing.

All curbing outlining fire lane access areas shall be painted red.

10.50.050 Lettering on curbing.

White lettering shall be a minimum of three inches high, reading "FIRE LANE NO PARKING" or "NO PARKING FIRE LANE" and shall be placed every thirty (30) feet or portion thereof, on top of designated curbing.

10.50.060 Sign requirements.

Signs, if provided shall state "FIRE LANE" with a minimum letter height of one inch, be reflective in nature, and shall have the appropriate municipal code section placed on the sign.

10.50.070 Notification of designated fire lane access lanes.

The property owner(s) shall provide, maintain and place "FIRE LANE NO PARKING" signs, markings, striping, white lettering on red painted curbing only in locations where the fire department has designated fire access lanes.
