8.40.1200 - General.

Regulated materials shall be classified as Class I, Class II, Class III or Min. T.Q. materials as defined in Part 1 of this article.

8.40.1210 - Exempt amounts.

Except as provided below, any single regulated material which would otherwise be regulated is exempt from regulation under this article if:

A. The aggregate quantity of any single regulated material in a control area or exterior storage does not exceed the Min. T.Q.; and

B. The quantity of the material in a single vessel does not exceed the amounts specified as follows:

  1. 1 pound; or

  2. A concentration below the permissible exposure limit (PEL); and

C. The aggregate quantity of all regulated materials in a control area or exterior storage does not exceed the exempt amounts specified in Article 80 of the currently adopted edition of the California Fire Code.

Notwithstanding the exemption above, no amount of Class I regulated material is exempt from the provisions for flow-limiting devices and fire extinguishing systems found in Part 2 of this article.

8.40.1220 - Calculations for determining the class of mixtures.

The LC 50 value for mixtures containing regulated materials shall be calculated using the following formula:

LC 50 of gas mixture (ppm) = 1 _____ (molar fraction of toxic component)/ (ppm LC 50 of toxic component)

If more than one toxic component is present, the LC 50 value shall be calculated using the following formula:

where f i is the mole fraction of the i th toxic component of the gas mixture and LC 50 i is the LC 50 of the i th toxic component of the gas mixture.
