§ 10.46.010. Permit required.

No person shall drive an oversize, overweight or overloaded vehicle on a city street without first having obtained a permit from the public works director, or designee.

§ 10.46.020. Application.

Each application for a permit shall contain information describing the vehicle, the proposed route to be traveled and the time of day that it will be traveled. It shall be subject to the approval of the city engineer who shall not withhold his approval if he or she determines that allowing such vehicle to travel the route at time requested will not unduly impede traffic or create a hazardous condition. Upon the approval of the city engineer, the payment of a permit fee in an amount which shall be determined by resolution of the city council, and the furnishing to the public works director, or designee of a liability insurance bond or policy of not less than twenty-five thousand dollars to protect the city against damage to public property, the public works director, or designee shall issue the permit, which shall be valid for a period of ninety days from the date of issuance.

§ 10.46.030. Defined.

A vehicle is to be oversize, overweight or overloaded if it is any of the following:

(1) A vehicle, including its load, if any, exceeding one hundred inches in width;

(2) A vehicle, including its load, if any, exceeding a height of fourteen feet, measured from the surface on which the vehicle stands;

(3) A vehicle exceeding a length of forty feet or a semitrailer and motor truck or truck tractor towing it, with the overall length exceeding sixty feet;

(4) A vehicle, or the load upon the front vehicle of a combination of vehicles, extending more than three feet beyond the foremost part of the front tires of the vehicle or the front bumper of the vehicle;

(5) A vehicle, without a trailer, carrying a load or a vehicle with a trailer carrying a load extending to the rear beyond the point of support for a greater distance than that equal to two-thirds of the length of the wheel-base of the vehicle carrying such load, except that the wheelbase of a trailer shall be considered as the distance between the rearmost axle of the towing vehicle and the rearmost axle of the trailer;

(6) Any combination of vehicles with a load exceeding sixty feet measured from the front extremity of the front vehicle or load to the rear extremity of the last vehicle or load;

(7) A vehicle imposing on a street a gross weight by the wheels on any one axle exceeding twenty thousand pounds and a gross weight upon any one wheel, or wheels, supporting one end of an axle and resting upon a street exceeding ten thousand five hundred pounds and a gross weight imposed upon a street by the wheels on any front steering axle of a motor vehicle exceeding twelve thousand five hundred pounds.
