§ 10.04.010. Generally.

The following words and phrases when used in this title shall for the purpose of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter. Whenever any words or phrases used herein are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the State and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply.

§ 10.04.020. Coach.

"Coach"

means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

§ 10.04.030. Curb.

"Curb"

means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb is marked by curbing construction, or not so marked; the word "curb" as herein used shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies.

§ 10.04.040. Divisional island.

"Divisional island"

means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic.

§ 10.04.050. Holidays.

"Holidays"

within the meaning of this title, are the 1st day of January, the 12th day of February, the 22nd day of February, the 30th day of May, the 4th day of July, the 1st Monday in September, the 9th day of September, the 12th day of October, the 11th day of November, Thanksgiving Day and the 25th day of December, and holidays proclaimed by the President or Governor.

If a holiday falls on a weekend, i.e., Saturday or Sunday, the holiday will be observed on the nearest working day, i.e., Friday or Monday respectively.

§ 10.04.060. Loading zone.

"Loading zone"

means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

§ 10.04.070. Official time standard.

Official time standard.

Whenever certain hours are named herein, they mean standard time or daylight savings time as may be in current use in this City.

§ 10.04.080. Parking meter.

"Parking meter"

means a mechanical device installed within or upon the curb or sidewalk area, immediately adjacent to a parking space, for the purpose of controlling the period of time occupancy of such parking meter space by any vehicle.

§ 10.04.090. Parkway.

"Parkway"

means that portion of a public right-of-way between the curb and sidewalk.

§ 10.04.100. Passenger loading zone.

"Passenger loading zone"

means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.

§ 10.04.110. Pedestrian.

"Pedestrian"

means any person afoot.

§ 10.04.120. Police officer.

"Police officer"

means every officer of the Police Department of this City or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

"Stop,"

when required, means complete cessation of movement.

"Vehicle code"

means the latest edition of the Vehicle Code of the State of California.
