14.05.010 Vendors And Warranties

Fleet services shall be responsible for selecting maintenance vendors and maintaining all vehicle warranties to the standards recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

The fleet services division shall be responsible for maintaining and repairing all vehicles, including those defined in section 14.07.040 as non-replacement vehicles.

Maintenance and repair shall consist of all routine preventative maintenance including labor, parts and materials for the following; tune-ups, brakes, fluid changes, battery replacement, engine repair, transmission service, suspension parts, tires, glass breakage, electrical work, emissions requirements and defective items found in safety checks. The operation and maintenance fees cover these services.

Labor, parts and materials for such work shall be charged at current shop rates to the respective departments (i.e., installation of radio, phone, toolbox, special equipment and attachments such as tow hitches, etc.).

Major repairs are considered any repair where the cost exceeds $1,000.00, i.e. new engines, transmissions, etc. User departments are responsible for the cost of major repairs. The fleet superintendent will confer with the affected department head prior to repairs being made.

  1. It is the using department’s fiscal responsibility to pay for repairs to vehicles due to an accident when it is deemed the county’s responsibility to pay for damages. These repairs will be coordinated through fleet services. User departments will be notified by the fleet superintendent of the estimated cost before repairs are started.

  2. Vehicles will be repaired when the repair cost is less than ½ the value of the vehicle at the time of the accident. When the cost to repair the vehicle is over ½ the value of the vehicle, the fleet superintendent and the affected department had will determine if the vehicle will be replaced or deleted from the fleet with Board approval.

  3. When a vehicle is replaced due to an accident, the using department will be fiscally responsible for the difference in the actual cost of the replacement vehicle and the amount that has been collected for depreciation and replacement of the wrecked vehicle.
