Chapter 17.86 — MASSAGE THERAPY

§ 17.86.010. Purpose and Intent.

The purpose of this Chapter is to establish regulations to allow massage therapy business activity to occur. Regulations in this Chapter are intended to reduce impacts to the degree so as to minimize any potential adverse effect such uses have on surrounding commercial or industrial uses. § 17.86.020. Applicability.

The regulations and standards contained in this Chapter shall apply to the establishment of any massage therapy businesses as defined by Chapter 17.24 (Allowed Use Definitions) in the city and shall be in addition to any other development standards and regulations contained elsewhere within this Zoning Code. The establishment of any massage therapy business shall include the opening of such a business as a new business, the relocation of such a business, or the conversion of an existing business location to any massage therapy use. § 17.86.030. Permit Requirements.

Massage therapy businesses regulated by this Chapter shall only be permitted in accordance with Article II (Zoning Districts, Allowed Uses, and Development Standards) and subject to the special regulations outlined in Section 17.86.040 (Special Standards) of this Chapter as determined through administrative Zoning Conformance. These requirements are in addition to other permits of certificates required by law. (Ord. 1501 § 1, 2011)

§ 17.86.040. Special Standards.

Prior to the establishment of massage therapy businesses, the following requirements shall be met.

  • A. Employee Registration Required. In accordance with Section 9.28.110 of the Manteca Municipal Code, all employees must be registered by the Massage Therapist Organization. The operator of such establishment must

maintain a register of all persons so employed and their certification number, which register shall be available for inspection at all times during regular business hours.

  • B. Permit Posted. In accordance with Section 9.28.120 of the Manteca Municipal Code, a permit approving the massage therapy business, or a copy thereof, shall be posted in plain view within the establishment for which the permit has been issued.

  • C. No person who is granted a permit issued pursuant to this Chapter shall operate under any name or conduct his or her business under any designation not specified in his or her permit.
