12.01.010 - Alcoholic beverage.¶
"Alcoholic beverage" includes alcohol, spirits, liquor, wine, beer and every liquid or solid containing one-half of one percent (.5%) or more of alcohol by volume and which is fit for beverage purposes either alone or when diluted, mixed, or combined with other substances.

12.01.020 - Beach.¶
"Beach" is defined as all that portion of the City lying west of the Strand.

12.01.030 - Strand.¶
"Strand" is defined as the paved public right-of-way between the beach and the westerly property line of the properties nearest the Pacific Ocean.

12.01.040 - Chief of Police.¶
"Chief of Police" means the Chief of Police of the City of Manhattan Beach and his duly authorized officers.

12.01.050 - City.¶
"City" means the City of Manhattan Beach.

12.01.060 - County.¶
"County" means the County of Los Angeles.

12.01.070 - Director.¶
"Director" means the Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors, the Director of the State Department of Parks and Recreation, their deputies, or other persons authorized pursuant to law to act in their stead. All references in the Municipal Code to the Department of Beaches shall be deemed to refer to the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors, the State Department of Parks and Recreation, or such other agency that is responsible for providing lifeguard services at the beach.

12.01.075 - Lifeguard.¶
"Lifeguard" means a person employed to safeguard swimmers. All references in the Municipal Code to County lifeguards or lifeguards shall be deemed to refer to any lifeguards employed by the City of Manhattan Beach, the County of Los Angeles or the State of California.

12.01.080 - Loitering.¶
"Loitering" means to linger idly by the way, to idle, to loaf, to stand idly by, to spend time idly, or to walk about aimlessly without purpose.

12.01.090 - Person.¶
"Person" includes every person, firm or corporation.

12.01.095 - State.¶
"State" means the State of California.

12.01.100 - Vessel.¶
"Vessel" includes every description of watercraft, other than a seaplane on the water, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water and includes a raft, but does not include a surfboard, paddle board, or a standard surf mat.
