Chapter 6.20 — FEEDING OF WILDLIFE AND WILDLIFE ATTRACTION PROHIBITED

6.20.010. - Purpose.¶
It is the purpose and intent of this chapter to minimize conflicts between humans and wildlife and to ensure responsible human-wildlife interactions.

6.20.020. - Prohibited acts.¶
(a)
No person shall feed or in any manner provide food or scented items for any nondomesticated animals, including, but not limited to, bears, mountain lions, coyotes, raccoons, deer, mice, birds, or squirrels.
(b)
While camping or in public outdoor spaces, no person shall store any food, garbage, or scented items, unless the items are stored in a container designed to prevent access by bears and other wildlife, or the person is actively engaged in cooking and/or eating.
(c)
No person shall permit barbecue equipment or other tools that remain outdoors to have a buildup of residual food or grease that attracts wildlife.
(d)
No person shall leave a fishing line, fishing tackle, fishing rod, string, bait or other fishing equipment unattended in a manner that attracts wildlife.
(e)
No person shall store any food, garbage, or scented items in their vehicle in such a manner that attracts wildlife.
(f)
No person shall allow for or engage in spillage of solid waste, as defined in Section 8.12.070(m), that attracts wildlife.
(g)
No person shall permit any delivery items or packages to be left outdoors in such a manner that attracts wildlife.

No person shall keep any animal food on a property in such a manner that could attract wildlife.

6.20.030. - Exceptions.¶
Section 6.20.010 shall not prohibit feeding or providing food to a nondomesticated animal in the following instances:
(1)
When the person is the owner of such nondomesticated animal and such animal is kept under valid certificate or permit issued by the State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
(2)
When the person provides food for a trapped, injured, or unweaned nondomesticated animal between the time that the agency in charge of animal control is notified and such animal is picked up by that agency.

6.20.040. - Violation; penalty.¶
All violations of any portion of this chapter are declared to be a public nuisance and may be abated by the Town in such manner as provided by law. All violations of any portion of this chapter are declared to be misdemeanors or infractions, pursuant to Section 1.12.010. The remedies set forth in this chapter are non- exclusive and the Town may seek any legal and equitable relief permitted by law in addition to those remedies set forth in this chapter.
