8.16.010 - Definitions.¶
For the purposes of this chapter, unless otherwise apparent from the context certain terms used herein are defined as follows:
A.
"Truck" shall mean any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight of three tons; and
B.
"Unrestricted street" shall mean any truck route as established by the provisions of this chapter or any street outside the boundaries of the city including, but not limited to, El Camino Real.

8.16.020 - Truck routes established.¶
A.
Foothill Expressway and El Monte Avenue southerly of Foothill Expressway are hereby declared to be truck routes.
B.
The following named streets are hereby declared to be limited truck routes for the movement of trucks, limited truck route being defined and pertaining to those vehicles making deliveries within the city limits:

8.16.030 - Truck traffic—Outside origin.¶
A.
Outside destination. All trucks entering the city for destination points outside the city shall operate only over a truck route as herein established or other unrestricted street.
B.
Inside destination. All trucks entering the city for a destination point in the city shall enter the city only over a truck route or limited truck route, as established by the provisions of this chapter. Trucks shall not leave said truck route or limited truck route except to use the shortest and most direct route to the destination
point. Upon leaving the destination point, the truck shall return to the nearest truck route or limited truck route, by the shortest route.
C.
Multiple inside destinations. All trucks entering the city for multiple destination points shall proceed only over a truck route or limited truck route, as established by the provisions of this chapter. Trucks shall not leave said truck route or limited truck route except to use the shortest and most direct route to the first destination point. Upon leaving the first destination point, a truck shall proceed to the other destination points within the immediate commercial area by the shortest route. Upon leaving the immediate commercial area, the truck shall return to the nearest truck route or limited truck route, by the shortest route.

8.16.040 - Truck traffic—Inside origin.¶
All trucks on a trip originating in the city shall proceed by the shortest route to the nearest truck route or limited truck route, as established by the provisions of this chapter.

8.16.050 - Weigh-in.¶
Any police officer shall have the authority to require any person driving or in control of any commercial vehicle not proceeding over a truck route to proceed to any public or private scale available for the purpose of weighing and determining whether the provisions of this chapter have been complied with.

8.16.060 - Exceptions.¶
A.
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission of the state, any vehicle owned or operated by the city or public utilities, any contractor or materialman while engaged in the repair, maintenance, or construction of streets, street improvements, or street utilities within the city, or to any authorized emergency vehicles.
B.
The council reserves the right to grant temporary permits for the utilization of San Antonio Road. Such temporary permits may be granted by the council when it finds:
Exceptional circumstances involving hardship to the applicant; and
Such permit is necessary for the preservation of a substantial property right.

8.16.070 - Posting of signs.¶
In accordance with the provisions of subsection (b) of Section 713 of the Vehicle Code of the state, the city engineer is hereby directed to post appropriate signs indicating the streets which are affected by the provisions of this chapter in order to best give notice.

8.16.080 - Commercial vehicles prohibited.¶
Commercial vehicles over three tons gross are prohibited on Jordan Avenue and East Portola Avenue unless making pickups from or deliveries to destinations along those streets or connecting streets.

8.16.090 - Violations as infractions.¶
Any violation of this chapter shall constitute an infraction, punishable as provided by law.
