Lake Forest Municipal Code Ch. 12.08 Traffic Control

The Director is authorized to do any or all of the following: (i) designate two way left turn lanes on highways; (ii) place signs or markings to prohibit or restrict left turns, right turns or U-turns at intersections or driveways; (iii) place official traffic-control devices within or adjacent to intersections indicating the course to be traveled by vehicles turning at such intersections; and (iv) locate and indicate more than one lane of traffic from which drivers of vehicles may make right or left turns.

A. All major, primary, secondary and commuter arterial highways of the City as shown on the Circulation Element of the City's General Plan, as amended from time to time, are hereby declared to be through highways, unless specifically designated otherwise, together with such other highways, together with such other highways as the City Council may, by resolution, declare to be through highways.

B. The Director is authorized to erect and maintain stop signs conforming to the requirements of California Vehicle Code 21400 and the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices at entrances to any or all through highways from other public or private streets. The Director is also authorized to install stop signs at intersections where, in his or her opinion, it is reasonably necessary for the immediate protection and safety of the traveling public. Following the installation of a stop sign to provide for the immediate protection and safety of the traveling public, the Director shall seek approval from the City Council within 90 days for the installed sign to remain permanently.
