§ 15.20.010. Generally.

All entrances to buildings from the public streets of the city shall be numbered as provided in this chapter. The number of each and every entrance shall be placed within the immediate proximity of such entrance and be visible from the street, and each figure of the number shall be at least two inches (5.08 centimeters) in height and of contrasting background.

§ 15.20.020. Assignment of numbers.

It shall be the duty of the building inspector to assign the respective numbers as provided in this chapter for buildings fronting on streets heretofore laid out or to be hereafter laid out or extended. The appropriate number of any entrance to any building shall be placed thereon within five days after the receipt thereof or prior to construction by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant or subtenant of such building from the building inspector.

§ 15.20.030. Houses under construction.

Houses in the process of construction shall have placed thereon or on the premises, the appropriate number as is assigned by the building inspector on the property owner's building permit. Such numbers shall be of sufficient height as to be visible from the street.

§ 15.20.040. Block defined.

"Block"

means that portion of any street between two cross-streets, or between a cross-street and an abutting street, or between two abutting streets. In cases of abutting streets, the prolonged centerline of the abutting street shall be the dividing line of the blocks, providing that all blocks exceeding one thousand feet (304.8 meters) in length shall be considered as two blocks.

§ 15.20.050. Numbering of streets running east and west.

For the numbering of blocks in all streets running east and west heretofore laid out, or hereafter laid out or extended, the dividing line and starting point shall be D Street. The first block east of D Street on any street intersecting D Street shall be designated as the two thousand one hundred block and thereafter proceeding east from said block, each block shall be designated by a number equal to the number of the block immediately west thereof increased by one hundred; the first block west of D Street on any street intersecting D Street shall be designated as the two thousand block and thereafter proceeding west from said block each block shall be designated by a number of the block immediately west thereof decreased by one hundred.

§ 15.20.060. Numbering of streets running north and south.

For the numbering of blocks running north and south in all streets heretofore laid out, or hereafter to be laid out or extended, the dividing line and starting point shall be Palomares Avenue. The first block north of Palomares Avenue on any street intersecting Palomares Avenue shall be designated as the two thousand block and thereafter proceeding north from said block each block shall be designated by a number equal to the block immediately south thereof increasing by one hundred. The first block south of Palomares Avenue on any street intersecting the block and thereafter proceeding south from said block shall be designated by a number equal to the number of the block immediately north thereof decreased by one hundred.

§ 15.20.070. Numbering on sides of streets.

The numbers on the northerly and westerly sides of the streets shall be odd numbers on the southerly and easterly sides thereof shall be even numbers.

§ 15.20.080. Numbers allowed in each block.

One hundred numbers or as many thereof as may be necessary shall be allowed for each block. The block numbers shall be the first numbers used at the respective beginning point on the sides of the street which are to contain the even numbers, and the block numbers plus one for the sides which are to contain the odd numbers. Twelve and one-half feet (3.81 meters) frontage shall be allowed for each number, to be calculated from the end of the block at which the number begins. On all streets the numbering shall be done as if the streets extended to the dividing lines heretofore designated.
