17.24.310 - Experimental technology permit.

The experimental technology permit (ETP) provides limited authorization for a business or industrial firm to comply with certain minimum standards regarding the plan checking and inspection of such activity with ongoing development, testing, and iteration of electrical systems under defined conditions through a qualified reporting program, subject to the following requirements:

A. Each experimental technology permit is subject to review and approval by the building official and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

B. Each application for a permit shall be accompanied by plans and specifications or by a suitable diagram subject to approval by the building official.

C. All electrical work shall be performed under the direct and continuous supervision of a licensed electrical engineer registered in the State of California.

D. All electrical installations shall be performed by a contractor holding a valid C-10 (electrical) license issued by the State of California.

E. The department's inspection staff meets with the firm's contact person to perform representative spot inspections on the work performed.

F. The specific terms and conditions of each experimental technology permit shall be determined at the discretion of the building official.

G. The building official may revoke an experimental technology permit at any time, at their sole discretion. Upon revocation, all associated electrical work must be immediately de-energized and abated within thirty (30) calendar days unless a new permit is secured to authorize the continued work.

H. All electrical installations are subject to the current provisions of the Code of Building Regulations, the California Electrical Code and approval or exemption from the permit process by the Kern County Building Department.
