10.36.010 - Truck routes.

A. Whenever any resolution or ordinance of this city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of four tons, the city engineer is authorized to designate such street or streets by appropriate signs as "Truck Routes" for the movement of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons.

B. When any such truck route or routes are established and designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of four tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other except, that nothing in this section shall prohibit the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum of three tons coming from a "truck route" having ingress and egress by direct route to and from restricted streets when necessary for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on such restricted streets or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon such restricted streets for which a building permit has been previously obtained therefor.

C. The provisions of this section shall not apply to: (1) passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the public utilities commission; or (2) any vehicle owned by a public utility while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any public utility.

D. Those streets and parts of streets established by resolution of the council are hereby declared to be truck routes for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight of four tons.

10.36.020 - Maryland Drive restricted.

A. Pursuant to the authority provided in California Vehicle Code Section 35701, it shall be unlawful for the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons to drive upon Maryland Drive from its point of intersection with Kidder Street to its limits at the city easterly limits boundary.

B. Nothing in this section shall prohibit the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons from having ingress and egress when necessary for the purposes of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to any building structure located on such street, or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling, or construction of any building or structure upon Maryland Drive for which a building permit has been previously obtained therefore.

C. The provisions of this section shall not apply to:

  1. Passenger buses under the jurisdiction of public utility commissions; or

  2. Any vehicle owned by a public utility while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any public utility.

D. The city engineer is directed to erect and install appropriate and legible signs denoting Maryland Drive as restricted to those vehicles exceeding the maximum gross weight limit of three tons.

10.36.030 - All city streets restricted—Use of "Jake brakes" prohibited.

Pursuant to the authority provided in California Vehicle Code Section 21101(c), except in cases of a bona fide emergency it is unlawful for the operator of any vehicle equipped with an engine speed governor to use or otherwise apply such device when traveling upon any street other than a state highway within the incorporated limits of the city.
