§ 2.14.010. Office eliminated.¶
The office of city attorney is hereby eliminated. The city will contract for legal services. Any reference in this code to city attorney shall refer to the city's contract legal services firm.

§ 2.14.020. Powers and duties.¶
(a) The city attorney shall advise city officials in all legal matters pertaining to city business. The city attorney shall be responsible for the framing of all ordinances and resolutions required by the city council.
(b) As the city's legal advisor, the city attorney shall:
(1) Attend all city council meetings unless excused;
(2) Attend the meetings of the other city boards and commissions as requested;
(3) Provide advice to the city manager and staff and coordinate with the city council and city manager when providing legal advice to other subordinate officers and employees;
(4) Be responsible for the form of all city contracts and other legal documents;
(5) Initiate and defend all legal actions in which the city or any officer or employee is a party unless other arrangements for special counsel have been made;
(6) File and prosecute all actions alleging a criminal violation of the municipal code unless other arrangements are made with the district attorney or other special prosecutor.
