31-18 UNDERGROUND UTILITIES.

31-18.1 Exceptions.¶
All utility distribution facilities, including but not limited to electric, communication and cable television lines, within any residential or commercial subdivision shall be placed under ground, except as follows:
a. Equipment appurtenant to underground facilities, such as surface-mounted transformers, pedestal-mounted terminal boxes and meter cabinets, and concealed ducts;
- b. Metal poles supporting street lights.
31-18.2 Responsibility of Subdivider.¶
The subdivider is responsible for complying with the requirements of this section and shall make the necessary arrangements with the utility companies involved for the installation of the facilities. The advisory agency may grant exceptions as provided in Section 31-3 if topographical, soil, or other conditions make underground installation of the facilities unreasonable or impractical.
31-18.3 Application of Section.¶
These requirements apply to those portions of any existing public streets abutting the subdivision.
31-18.4 Prohibition Against Converting Underground Facilities to Overhead. <sup> </sup>¶
Utility distribution facilities installed underground within a subdivision shall be continued and maintained underground and may not be replaced with overhead facilities. The Planning Commission may grant an exception as provided in Section 31-14 if topographical soil or other conditions make continued undergrounding unreasonable or impractical. (Ord. #45-84)
