9.52.010 - Firearms, fireworks or explosives—Permit required for use.

No person shall exhibit, manufacture, sell, expose for sale, set off, discharge or cause to be set off or discharged any ordnance, guns, rifle, pistol or other firearm or any squib, dynamite, gunpowder, rocket, Roman candle, firecracker or other fireworks or explosives of any kind or nature whatsoever within the city, except after a permit has been obtained from the city council.

9.52.020 - Weapons—Possession prohibited generally.

No person shall have upon his person or within his immediate possession or control, whether the same is visible or concealed, any switchblade or knife or any knife described in Section 9.52.030, or any knife with a blade three inches or more in length, any icepick, awl, dirk, dagger, stiletto or other similar sharp stabbing tool, and straight edge razor, razor blade fitted to a handle, razor with an unguarded blade or any cutting, stabbing or bludgeoning weapon or device intended to be used or which may be used as a club or capable of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

9.52.030 - Switchblade knives.

No person shall sell, offer for sale, expose for sale, keep, carry, possess, loan, transfer or give to any person, any springblade knife, switchblade knife, snapblade knife or any knife of which any blade is released automatically by a spring mechanism, gravity, momentum or other device.

9.52.040 - Engaging in fights or riots with weapons.

No person who has upon his person or within his immediate physical possession or control, whether the same is visible or concealed, any knife such as defined in Section 9.52.030 or any dangerous or deadly weapon, shall engage in any fight or participate in any riot, uprising or other type of disorderly conduct, within the city.

9.52.050 - Exceptions for recreation and law enforcement.

Nothing contained in Sections 9.52.020 through 9.52.040 shall be deemed to prohibit the possession or control of ordinary tools or equipment carried in good faith for the purpose of honest work, trade or business, or for use in legitimate sport or recreation, nor shall anything contained in such sections prohibit police officers, special police officers or other law enforcement officers from carrying any club or authorized equipment by the properly constituted authorities of the city or other law enforcement agencies.

9.52.060 - Violation—Penalty.

It is unlawful for any person to violate any provision or to fail to comply with any of the requirements of this chapter. A violation of any of the provisions or failing to comply with any of the mandatory requirements of this chapter shall constitute a misdemeanor; except that notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, any such violation constituting a misdemeanor under this chapter may, at the discretion of the city attorney or the citing officer on the scene, be charged and prosecuted as an infraction.
