5.44.010 - Register required.

The proprietor of every establishment where sleeping facilities are made available to the public shall keep a register of all guests.

5.44.020 - Definitions.

Whenever any of the following words defined in this section are used in this chapter, they shall have the following meanings:

"Establishment" means and includes a hotel, motel, lodginghouse, guesthouse, boardinghouse or other facility where sleeping accommodations are made available to the public.

"Guest" means and includes a patron, lodger or roomer.

"Proprietor" means and includes the owner, manager, operator, desk clerk or other employer whose duty it is to register patrons of the establishment.

5.44.030 - Contents of register.

The register shall contain for each guest:

A. His/her name and address;

B. The day, month and year when the person registered;

C. The number of rooms he/she occupied; and

D. If the registered person arrived by motor vehicle, the year, make and model of the vehicle as well as the license number and the state issuing the license for the vehicle.

5.44.040 - Signature of guest.

Before renting, furnishing or otherwise making available any room or accommodation to any guest, the proprietor of the establishment shall require the guest to sign the register.

5.44.050 - Permanent record.

The register shall be a permanent record which must be kept on the premises of the establishment for two full calendar years following the close of the establishment's fiscal year.

5.44.060 - Display of register.

The register shall be available to any peace officer, as defined in Penal Code Section 817, for inspection in the normal course of his or her duties.
