12.20.010 - Uniform numbering system.

A. All entrances from the public streets of the city to buildings shall be numbered as provided in this chapter.

B. The numbering of each and every entrance shall be placed upon or immediately above the door or gate closing the entrance. Each figure of said number shall be at least two inches in height and of corresponding width.

C. The appropriate number of any entrance to any building shall be placed thereon within five days after the receipt by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant or subtenant of such building of a notice from the building inspector of the number or numbers designated for such building, and all numbers designated for such building not in conformity shall be immediately removed from the building by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant or subtenant thereof.

D. It shall be the duty of the building inspector to designate the respective numbers for buildings fronting on streets laid out by the time of the effective date of the ordinance codified in this section, or laid out or extended after such time.

12.20.020 - Dividing lines designated.

The following shall be respective starting points or dividing lines for numbers on buildings fronting on streets laid out by the time of the effective date of the ordinance codified in this section, or to be laid out or extended after such time:

A. East and west, from Broadway; and

B. North and south, from Hobsonway.

12.20.030 - Odd and even numbers.

The numbers on the northerly and westerly sides of the street shall be odd numbers, and the numbers on the southerly and easterly side shall be even numbers.

12.20.040 - Numbers designated.

A. A block, within the meaning of this chapter, shall be that portion of any street between two cross streets, or between a cross street and an abutting street, or between two abutting streets. In cases of abutting streets, the prolonged center line of the abutting street shall be the dividing line of the blocks.

B. One hundred numbers, or as many thereof as may be necessary, shall be allowed to each block. Number 100 shall be the first number used at the respective beginning point on the sides of the street which are to contain the even numbers, and number 101 for the sides which are to contain the odd numbers. At the beginning of the second block from the starting point, the first numbers shall be 200 and 201, respectively, and so continued throughout the system.

12.20.050 - Frontage.

Twelve and one-half feet of frontage shall be allowed for each number, to be calculated from the end of the block at which the numbers begin. On all streets the number shall be done as if the streets extended to the dividing line for the city, as defined in Section 12.20.020.

12.20.060 - Penalty for violation.

Any person, persons, firm or corporation who violates, neglects or refuses to comply with any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, on conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than ten dollars nor more than thirty dollars, or by imprisonment in the county jail not fewer than ten days nor more than thirty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
