12.54.010 Purpose.

The purpose of this Chapter is to cooperate with the County of Alameda to:

A. Establish formal policies and regulations for issuing certificates and permits, and regulating the operation of ground ambulance services in Alameda County;

B. Protect the public by assuring that ambulances operate safely and meet certain minimum levels and standards of equipment, staffing, and mechanical reliability;

C. Allow for adequate, appropriate, and efficient ambulance services in all areas of Alameda County;

D. Allow for the orderly and lawful operation of a local emergency and non-emergency medical services system pursuant to the provisions of Health and Safety Code Section 1797 et seq.; and

E. Allow for all ambulance services to be a part of the county EMS system with the necessary training, policies, procedures, and communication systems. (Ord. 7078-NS § 1 (part), 2009)

12.54.020 Definitions.

All terms used in this Chapter that are defined in Chapter 6.114 shall have the meanings set forth in Chapter 6.114. (Ord. 7078-NS § 1 (part), 2009)

12.54.030 Adoption of Alameda County Ordinance Code Chapter 6.114--Enforcement in Berkeley authorized.

A. The City of Berkeley hereby adopts Chapter 6.114 of the Alameda County Ordinance Code, as it may be amended from time to time, and all ambulance providers operating or providing ambulance service in Berkeley, other than the City itself, shall comply with Chapter 6.114 of the Alameda County Ordinance Code.

B. The County of Alameda is authorized to administer and enforce Chapter 6.114 in the City of Berkeley. (Ord. 7078-NS § 1 (part), 2009)

12.54.040 Costs.

Unless expressly agreed in writing, the City of Berkeley and its officers and employees shall not be liable for any costs or charges, or liability, associated with compliance with this Chapter or the rules or regulations promulgated hereunder. (Ord. 7078-NS § 1 (part), 2009)

12.54.050 No waiver.

By adopting this Chapter, the City of Berkeley does not waive or forego any right or privilege it currently holds with respect to ambulance services or related services under the Emergency Medical Services System and the Prehospital Emergency Medical Care Personnel Act, Health and Safety Code sections 1797, et seq. or any other law or regulation. (Ord. 7078-NS § 1 (part), 2009)
