§ 11.04.010 GENERALLY.

The following words and phrases when used in this title, shall, for the purposes of this title, have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter.

§ 11.04.020 ALLEY.

ALLEY means a public highway which does not exceed 20 feet between property lines.

§ 11.04.030 BUSINESS DISTRICT.

BUSINESS DISTRICT means the territory con-tiguous to a street when 50% or more of the frontage on both sides for a distance of 300 feet or more is occupied by buildings in use for retail or wholesale business; also any territory contiguous to a street which is immediately adjacent to or a continuation of a street within a business district when such territory is so designated by the City Council.

§ 11.04.032 PREFERRED PARKING DISTRICT.

The term PREFERRED PARKING DISTRICT means:

(1) Those certain residential streets or street, or any portion thereof, designated as such a district by resolution of the City Council after certain findings have been made for the purposes of enhancing and/or protecting the quality of life in the area of any such district so designated threatened by noise, traffic hazards, environmental pollution, or devaluation of real property resulting from commuter or nonresidentially oriented vehicular traffic, and providing reasonably available and convenient parking for the benefit of the adjacent residents; or

(2) Those certain streets or street, or any portion thereof, within the Alhambra Industrial Redevelopment Project Added Area "A" or the Alhambra Central Business District Redevelopment Project Area designated as such a district by resolution of the City Council after certain findings have been made for the purposes of enhancing and/or protecting the livelihood of the merchants in the area of any such district so designated threatened by noise, traffic hazards, environmental pollution, loss of revenue, or devaluation of real property resulting from lack of convenient customer or employee parking, safeguarding and/or enhancing the economic well-being of the city and its residents whose health, safety and welfare would be adversely impacted by declining sales tax revenue and real property values, and providing reasonably available and convenient parking for the benefit of those who do business, work or reside within any such district so designated.

§ 11.04.040 CROSSWALK.

CROSSWALK means that portion of the roadway included within the prolongation of curb and property lines at street intersections.

§ 11.04.050 INTERSECTION.

INTERSECTION means the area embraced within the prolongation of the property lines of two or more streets which join at an angle whether or not one such street crosses the other.

§ 11.04.060 LOADING ZONE.

LOADING ZONE means space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

§ 11.04.070 OFFICIAL WARNING AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNS AND SIGNALS.

OFFICIAL WARNING AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNS AND SIGNALS means all warning and direction signs and signals not inconsistent with this title heretofore or hereafter placed or erected under this title or by authority of the City Council.

§ 11.04.080 OPERATOR.

OPERATOR means any person who is in actual physical control of a vehicle.

§ 11.04.090 OVERHEIGHT LOAD.

OVERHEIGHT LOAD means a load exceeding the legal height limit as set forth in the California Vehicle Code.

§ 11.04.100 OVERLENGTH LOAD.

OVERLENGTH LOAD means a load exceeding the legal length limit as set forth in the California Vehicle Code.

§ 11.04.110 OVERWEIGHT LOAD.

OVERWEIGHT LOAD. Any load exceeding the legal load limits as set forth in the California Vehicle Code.

§ 11.04.120 OVERWIDTH LOAD.

OVERWIDTH LOAD means any load exceeding the legal width limit as set forth in the California Vehicle Code.

§ 11.04.130 PARK.

PARK means to stand a vehicle for a period of time greater than is reasonably necessary for the actual loading or unloading of persons or materials.

§ 11.04.140 PEDESTRIAN.

PEDESTRIAN means any person afoot.

§ 11.04.150 RIGHT-OF-WAY.

RIGHT-OF-WAY means the privilege of the immediate use of the street.

§ 11.04.160 ROADWAY.

ROADWAY means that portion of the street between the regularly established curb lines.

§ 11.04.170 SAFETY ZONE.

SAFETY ZONE means that marked portion of a roadway reserved for the exclusive use of pedestrians.

§ 11.04.180 SIDEWALK.

SIDEWALK means that portion of a street between the curb lines and the adjacent property lines.

§ 11.04.190 STREET.

STREET means every way set apart for public travel, except alleyways, bridal paths and foot paths.

§ 11.04.200 TRAFFIC.

TRAFFIC means pedestrians and vehicles, either singly or together, while using any street for purposes of travel.

§ 11.04.210 VEHICLE.

VEHICLE means every device or animal by which any person or property is or may be trans-ported or drawn upon a street, except devices moved by human power or used exclusively upon rails. For the purpose of this title, a bicycle shall be deemed a vehicle.
