1112-010 - DEFINITIONS¶
The following terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them by the Vehicle Code when this chapter is implemented: county highway, driver, intersection, limit line, official traffic control device, through highway, traffic, and vehicle.
1112-020 - BOARD OF SUPERVISORS' AUTHORITY TO ERECT STOP SIGNS¶
(a) The board of supervisors by ordinance or resolution may order that one or more stop signs be erected as follows:
(1) At any location on a county highway where a stop sign would enhance traffic safety.
(2) At any location on a county highway so as to control traffic within an intersection.
(b) Without limiting subsection (a), the board of supervisors by ordinance or resolution may designate:
(1) Any county highway as a through highway and order that stop signs or other official traffic control devices be erected at entrances to it;
(2) Any intersection under its jurisdiction as a stop intersection and order that stop signs or other official traffic control devices be erected at or near one or more entrances to it; and
(3) Any railroad grade crossing on a county highway, other than a crossing controlled by automatic signals, gates, or other train-activated control devices, as a major crossing with a demonstrated need for stop signs, and order that stop signs be erected at it.
1112-030 - ERECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF STOP SIGNS¶
Whenever the board of supervisors orders pursuant to section 1112-020 that a stop sign or other official traffic control device be erected, the Sutter County Development Services Department shall erect and maintain such sign or device. Each stop sign or other official traffic control device shall conform to the uniform standards and specifications promulgated by the California Department of Transportation, as required by the Vehicle Code.

1112-040 - EXISTING STOP SIGNS¶
All stop signs and other official traffic control devices that are in place on county highways when this chapter takes effect and were previously authorized by the board of supervisors shall be considered erected pursuant to this chapter.
1112-050 - STOPS REQUIRED¶
The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign erected pursuant to this chapter shall stop before passing the sign or, if a limit line is marked, before passing the limit line. If the stop sign is at the entrance to, or within, an intersection or railroad grade crossing, then the driver shall stop as required by the Vehicle Code before entering the intersection or crossing.
1112-060 - VIOLATIONS¶
This chapter is an ordinance adopted pursuant to the Vehicle Code. Accordingly, any violation of this chapter shall be punished pursuant to the provisions of the Vehicle Code that govern violation of such an ordinance.
