3.24.010 - Holding period.¶
Any unclaimed property, except unclaimed bicycles, shall be held by the police department for a period of at least four months.

3.24.020 - Public auction or public use.¶
After being held for four months, the property shall be transferred to the local government purchasing or stores agency or may be sold at public auction to the highest bidder. If the local government purchasing and stores agency, or other similar agency, determines that any such property transferred to it is needed for a public use, such property may be retained by the agency and need not be sold. Property held in accordance with this chapter shall not be redeemable by the owner or other persons entitled to possession.

3.24.030 - Perishable and costly to store property.¶
The police department may sell at public auction personal property, which is commonly the subject of sale, when the owner cannot with reasonable diligence be found or upon being found refuses to pay the lawful charges to defray costs of storage and care of property in the following cases:
A. When the item is in danger of perishing or losing the greater part of its value or when the lawful charges to defray the costs of storage and care of the property amount to two-thirds of the value;
B. In the case of perishable property, the chief of police shall post notice in three public places of the time and place of the public sale. The length of time of posting and the date of sale shall be such time as may be reasonable considering the character and condition of the property.

3.24.040 - Notice of public auction.¶
Notice of public auction shall be given by the chief of police at least five days before the date set for sale of such unclaimed property. Notice shall be given by publication once in a newspaper of general circulation published in the county.
