2.44.010 Composition – Planning commission.

The planning commission shall consist of seven voting members who are at least 18 years of age. Each council member will directly appoint one voting member who shall be a resident of the city of Sonoma. The remaining voting members will be referred to as at-large members and at least one shall be a resident of the Sonoma Valley, as defined by the council commission and committee appointment policy. All members shall be appointed and hold office in accordance with the applicable provisions of Chapter 2.40 SMC and rules and procedures established by city council resolution. No person shall be elected, appointed, reelected, or reappointed as chair or vice chair of the planning commission, unless such person is a resident of the city. Any person so elected or appointed shall maintain city residence as a qualification for the office, and upon loss of such residence, shall vacate the office. 2.44.020 General plan.

The planning commission shall have such power as is described by state law, and it shall be the function and duty of the planning commission to prepare and adopt a comprehensive long-term master plan for the physical development of the city. Such plan shall be known as the general plan and shall be so prepared that all, or portions thereof, may be adopted by the city council in accordance with law. (Ord. 84-8 § 3, 1984).

2.44.030 Powers and duties.

The planning commission shall have such other authority and responsibilities as delegated by the city council and specified by various ordinances within this code and by state law. (Ord. 84-8 § 3, 1984).
