2-7-1: COMMISSION SUSPENDED:¶
The existence of a traffic/street commission in the city of Selma is hereby suspended. The planning commission of the city of Selma shall perform the duties of the traffic/street commission as set forth in section 2-7-2 of this chapter. The making of this amendment shall not change the terms or compensation of the planning commission members as set by this code, or by city council resolution. If and when the city council deems it desirable to do so, the traffic/street commission will be reestablished to advise the city on traffic/street related policy issues. The voting membership of the commission, once activated, shall consist of five (5) citizens at large, with the director of public works, city engineer and police chief serving as staff liaison to the commission. 2-7-2: DUTIES OF COMMISSION:¶
It shall be the duty of the traffic/street commission to suggest the most practicable means for coordinating the activities of all officers and agencies of this city having authority with respect to the administration or enforcement of traffic and street matters; to stimulate and assist in the preparation and publication of traffic and street reports; to receive complaints having to do with traffic and street matters; and to recommend to the legislative body of the city and to the traffic engineer, the chief of the traffic division and other city officials ways and means for improving traffic and street conditions and the administration and enforcement of traffic and street regulations. 2-7-3: MEETINGS:¶
The traffic/street commission shall meet once a month at such times and places as the chairman shall designate. (Ord. 829, 8-3-1981)
2-7-4: TERMS AND COMPENSATION:¶
The five (5) citizen at large members appointed by the city council shall serve terms of two (2) years each. All terms will begin on July 1 and end on June 30 two (2) years after appointment. A vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term by an appointment of the council. Whenever, in the discretion of the council, the best interests of the city shall be subscribed thereby, any appointed member of the commission shall be removed from office by a four-fifths (4/5) vote of the council.
The compensation of each member of the traffic and street commission is hereby fixed at the sum of twenty five dollars ($25.00) per meeting for which the commission member is in attendance. Compensation may be hereafter set by resolution of the city council.
The member of the traffic and street commission appointed or selected by his or her colleagues as chairman shall also serve simultaneously for his or her full term as an ad hoc member of the Selma personnel commission to serve as a member of that commission, attend its meetings and participate in its proceedings if and when requested to do so by the chairperson of the Selma personnel commission.
