10.32.010 - Permit from council required.¶
It shall be unlawful for any person to conduct, carry on, operate or maintain within the city of San Rafael, any bowling alley or alleys, or public room or place where bowling alleys are kept or maintained for use by the public for compensation or otherwise, without first obtaining a written permit therefor from the city council of said city, which said permit shall be required in addition to the license required by Section 10.04.490 of this Code.

10.32.020 - Application for permit.¶
The applicant for a permit shall file with the city clerk a written application which shall state the name and address of applicant, the place where said bowling alley or alleys is to be operated, the number of alleys to be installed or operated and whether or not the applicant or the agent, lessees or assigns of the applicant intend to sell or permit the sale of any liquor or liquors as defined or controlled by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act and/or the State Board of Equalization of the state of California on or within said premises.

10.32.030 - Alcoholic beverages, other than beer, prohibited.¶
No permit shall be granted by the city council if it appears from said application that such liquor or liquors, except beer as defined by the Alcoholic Beverage Act and/or the State Board of Equalization, will be sold or dispensed upon said premises and any permit granted may be revoked by the city council in the event that any such liquor or liquors, except beer as defined by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act and/or the State Board of Equalization, shall be sold, dealt in, provided or dispensed upon said premises.

10.32.040 - Hours of operation.¶
No premises where any bowling alley or alleys are maintained or conducted shall be open nor shall any bowling be played or carried on therein between the hours of two a.m. (2:00 a.m.) and six a.m. (6:00 a.m.) of any day.

10.32.050 - Alleys to be open to view.¶
Any and every bowling alley or alleys and/or premises where bowling alley or alleys are maintained or conducted shall be conducted on the ground floor and shall be carried on in a single room in plain view of all persons and shall have an entrance or exit opening upon a public street.

10.32.060 - Persons under age of sixteen years prohibited—Exceptions.¶
It shall be unlawful for the proprietor, manager, clerk or other person in charge of any bowling alley or alleys, to permit any person under the age of sixteen (16) years to participate in any game of bowling or loiter in, around, or remain in and about said premises unless employed therein in response to a public advertisement therefor, or unless accompanied by the parent, parents, guardian, teacher, instructor, or one occupying a similar capacity of authority over such person or persons under the age of sixteen (16) years, as aforesaid.
It shall be unlawful for any such person under the age of sixteen (16) years to visit, loiter, or remain in such premises unless employed therein or seeking employment therein in response to a public advertisement therefor, or unless accompanied by the parent, parents, guardian, teacher, instructor, or one occupying a similar capacity of authority over such person or persons under the age of sixteen (16) years, as aforesaid.

10.32.070 - Private rooms prohibited—Exceptions.¶
It shall be unlawful for any person conducting any such premises, or for any servant or employee therein, to have or maintain in said premises any private room or rooms, expressly excepting a room or rooms used for the following purposes, to wit:
(a) Toilets or lavatories;
(b) Lockers;
(c) Storage;
(d) Offices;
(e) Pin boys change rooms;
(f) For any lawful purpose in connection with the operation of bowling alleys in said premises.
For the purpose of this chapter, private rooms shall be deemed to be those rooms the entire interiors of which are not exposed to view from the main entrance to such bowling alleys.

10.32.080 - Gambling in bowling alleys prohibited.¶
It shall be unlawful for any person conducting any such premises, or for any servant or employee therein, to permit, suffer or allow the playing of any game or games of chance or skill with cards, dice, or other gambling device. This, however, not being intended to prohibit the operation of any lawful amusement devices.

10.32.090 - Posting of regulations.¶
The owner or operator of any such premises shall cause a copy of the regulations established by this chapter to be kept conspicuously posted at all times within said premises.
