San Mateo County Municipal Code Ch. 1.20 Definitions

The following words and phrases, when used in this code, shall have the signification set forth in the chapter, unless it is otherwise apparent from their use in the context.

The word "County" shall mean the County of San Mateo.

The word "State" means the State of California.

The word "Charter" shall mean the Charter of the County of San Mateo, as amended.

The word "Deputy", when used alone, means any person in the County service who acts for the department head under the direction of and subordinate to the departmental head or his assistant, when appointed pursuant to law.

The word "code" shall mean the San Mateo County Ordinance Code, as enacted herein, and any and all amendments and supplements thereto and modification thereof, unless some other code is indicated.

The term "Board of Supervisors" shall mean the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo.

The term "Planning Commission" shall mean the Planning Commission of the County of San Mateo.

The word "Person" shall include any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, business trust, company, corporation, public agency, school district, the State of California, its political subdivisions and/or instrumentalities thereof.

Whenever titles of officers are used in this code such titles are applicable to officers of the County of San Mateo, unless otherwise indicated.

Whenever titles of departments, commissions, boards and agencies are used in this code, such titles are applicable to the departments, commissions, boards, and agencies of the County of San Mateo, unless otherwise indicated.
