5.08.010 - Mosaic indexed seed.¶
If it unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to plant any lettuce seed in the unincorporated area of the county which has not been mosaic-indexed.
"Mosaic indexed seed" means seed which does not carry more than one-tenth of one percent of seedborn mosaic virus and which is so labeled.

5.08.020 - Permit required to plant certain seed.¶
Notwithstanding the foregoing, any person, firm or corporation desiring to plant lettuce seed other than that which has been mosaic-indexed may apply to the agricultural commissioner of the county for a permit to plant such seed. The application shall be in writing and shall be in such form and give such details as the agricultural commissioner may require. If the agricultural commissioner after investigation, finds that mosaic-indexed lettuce seed of any variety is not then obtainable, he shall issue a permit authorizing the applicant to plant some other lettuce seed which is obtainable and which the commissioner finds involves least danger to lettuce crops in the county.

5.08.030 - Home use seed exempted.¶
This chapter shall not prohibit any person from planting lettuce seed which has not been mosaic-indexed for such person's own home use.

5.08.040 - Violation—Penalty.¶
Any violation of the provisions of this chapter constitutes a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not exceeding six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. In addition thereto, any person who violates any provision of this chapter is liable in a civil action for all damages that may be occasioned or caused by a violation of this chapter.
