3-7000 - RETURNED CHECK CHARGE.

If a personal check in payment to the County for any obligation is returned without payment for any reason, a charge of twenty-five dollars ($25.00), or the actual cost of collection and processing as determined by the County Auditor-Controller, whichever is greater, may be imposed. The returned check charge may be added to and become part of the underlying obligation other than an obligation which constitutes a lien on real property.

The appropriate department head shall have the authority to waive the collection of the fee if they determine the check was not paid due to reasonable cause or circumstances beyond the maker's control.
