10.24.010 Truck routes.¶
Whenever a city council resolution designates any street, or portion thereof, as a street where any vehicle exceeding a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand (10,000) pounds is permitted, the city traffic engineer may designate such street by appropriate truck route signs for the movement of vehicles exceeding a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand (10,000) pounds.
When any such truck route is established and designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand (10,000) pounds shall drive on such route and none other, except when necessary to traverse another street to a destination for the purpose of loading or unloading, but then only by such deviation from the nearest truck route as is reasonably necessary. The provisions of this section shall not apply to passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the public utilities commission. (Prior code § 25.04.061)
10.24.020 Streets on which commercial vehicles exceeding ten thousand pounds prohibited.¶
Whenever a city council resolution designates and describes any street the use of which is prohibited by commercial vehicles exceeding a manufacturer's gross weight rating of ten thousand (10,000) pounds, the city traffic engineer shall erect and maintain appropriate signs on such streets. The provisions of this section shall not apply to passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the public utilities commission.
When signs are erected on a street giving notice of a weight limit, no person shall drive any vehicle with a weight rating greater than the posted limit on any such street except as otherwise provided in the vehicle code. (Prior code § 25.04.062)
10.24.030 Transportation permit required.¶
No person shall drive or move on city streets or highways any vehicle which exceeds, or any vehicle on which a load exceeds, the height, width, length, or weight limits established in Division 15 of the Vehicle Code without first obtaining a transportation permit as provided in this chapter. 10.24.040 Issuance of transportation permits.¶
The city traffic engineer may issue transportation permits subject to the provisions of Article 6, Chapter 5 of Division 15 of the Vehicle Code (commencing with Section 35780) at his or her discretion and if good cause appears. The traffic engineer is authorized to impose conditions and restrictions, or refuse permits as provided in said sections. (Prior code § 25.04.065)
10.24.050 Types of transportation permits.¶
The city traffic engineer may issue: (a) short term transportation permits valid for a specified number of trips over a designated route for a period not to exceed thirty (30) calendar days; or (b) annual permits valid for a period not to exceed one year. (Prior code § 25.04.066)
10.24.060 Transportation permit fees.¶
No transportation permit shall be issued except upon payment as established by resolution of the city council for the following:
A. Short term permits;
B. Annual permits;
C. Duplicate permits for additional identical loads;
- Short term permits,
- Annual permits;
D. Route modifications for annual permits;
E. A route modification or time extension of a short term transportation permit shall be deemed an application for a new transportation permit and subject to full payment of the applicable fees;
F. Transportation permit fees may be waived for government agencies. (Prior code § 25.04.067)
10.24.070 Surrender of transportation permits.¶
All transportation permits shall remain property of the city and shall be surrendered upon demand of any peace officer, the city traffic engineer or his authorized representative. (Prior code § 25.04.068)
