6.08.010 - Generally.¶
Whenever in this title the following terms are used, they shall have the meaning ascribed to them in this chapter unless it is apparent from the context thereof that some other meaning is intended.

6.08.020 - Animal.¶
"Animal" means any animal including but not limited to poultry, bird, reptile, fish, dog, cat, horse, livestock, swine, or any other dumb creatures.

6.08.030 - Attacked.¶
For the purposes of this title, a person or animal shall be deemed to have been "attacked" by an animal if such animal, without provocation, has injurious bodily contact, including but not limited to biting, with such person or animal.

6.08.040 - Cat.¶
"Cat" means any cat of any age, including female as well as male.

6.08.050 - Department.¶
"Department" means the Southern California Humane Society, or any person, sole proprietorship, association, partnership or corporation employed by or under contract with the City to enforce and carry out the terms and provisions of this title.

6.08.060 - Director.¶
The "Director" means the Executive Director of the Department, as defined in Section 6.08.050, or his or her designee.

6.08.070 - Dog.¶
"Dog" means any dog of any age, including female as well as male.

6.08.080 - Family.¶
"Family" means one or more persons living in and as a single housekeeping unit, including domestic employees of such family.

6.08.090 - Horse.¶
"Horse" means any horse of any age or size, including mares, geldings and stallions.

6.08.100 - Impounded.¶
If any animal, pursuant to this title or any State statute, has been received into the custody of any animal shelter, such animal will have been "impounded" as that word is used in this title.

6.08.110 - Livestock.¶
"Livestock" includes, but is not limited to, any domestic fowls, rabbits, goats, bees, cattle, sheep, etc.

6.08.120 - Owner.¶
"Owner" means any person who owns an animal or who has custody or control of any animal for at least fifteen consecutive days.

6.08.130 - Person.¶
"Person" includes a firm, partnership, corporation, trust, any association of persons, or family, as defined in this chapter.

6.08.132 - Pot-bellied pigs.¶
"Pot-bellied pigs" shall mean domesticated miniature Vietnamese, Chinese or Asian pot-bellied or pot-belly pigs not exceeding one hundred twenty-five pounds in weight.

6.08.135 - Running at large.¶
"Running at large" or "being at large" means the presence of any animal on public or private property not owned or possessed by the owner or person having control, custody or possession of the animal, and not within the presence of or otherwise accompanied by the owner or possessor of the animal.

6.08.140 - Section.¶
"Section" means a section of this title, unless some other ordinance or statute is mentioned.

6.08.150 - Shall and may.¶
"Shall" is mandatory, and "may" is permissive.

6.08.160 - Swine.¶
"Swine" means any hog, pig, sow or piglet thereof including pot-bellied pigs as defined in Section 6.08.132.

6.08.170 - Threatens.¶
"Threatens" means any animal that by his actions chases, challenges, charges or molests any person or other animal.

6.08.180 - Unlicensed dog.¶
"Unlicensed dog" means any dog for which the license for the current year has not been paid, or to which the tag for the current year provided for in this title is not attached.

6.08.190 - Vaccine.¶
"Vaccine" means approved canine rabies vaccine which is approved for use by the State of California Department of Public Health.

6.08.200 - Wild animal.¶
"Wild animal" means any wild, exotic, dangerous or nondomestic animal, including, but not limited to, mammals, fowl, fish and reptiles.

6.08.210 - Working hours.¶
"Working hours" means the hours between eight a.m. and five p.m. daily, except Sundays and holidays.
