13.16.010: SUPPLY FROM FIRE HYDRANT:

A. An applicant for temporary use of water from a fire hydrant must secure a permit therefor from the city. The city shall require a prepayment in the amount set by resolution from all applicants prior to issuance of a fire hydrant construction meter. In the event the meter is lost or stolen, the entire prepayment will be forfeited.

B. Each applicant shall provide himself with a hydrant wrench necessary to operate such fire hydrant, and install a separate shutoff with restricting orifice to minimize damage to fire hydrant and mains. If a fire hydrant or a fire hydrant construction meter is damaged by the consumer's use to an extent requiring repair or replacement such repair or replacement shall be made at the consumer's expense. (Ord. 2608 § 8, 2005: prior code § 59113)

13.16.020: DAMAGE TO METERS:

The board reserves the right to set and maintain a meter on any connection. The water consumer shall be held liable, however, for any damage to the meter due to his negligence or carelessness and particularly for damage caused by hot water or steam from the premises. It shall be the responsibility of the owner of the property to protect the meter and the inlet valve to the meter from physical damage. The cost of repairs to the meter or inlet valve as a result of such physical damage shall be included in the next water bill. (Prior code § 59114)

13.16.030: METER TESTING:

When the accuracy of a water meter is questioned, the city, upon request of the customer, will cause an official test of the meter to be made for a charge as set forth by resolution. The meter will be tested on variable rates of delivery and if the average registration is more than two percent (2%) in excess of the actual quantity of water passing through the meter, the division shall refund to the customer the overcharge based upon the test, for the prior twelve (12) months, unless it can be shown that the error was due to some cause for which the date can be fixed. In the latter case, the overcharge shall be computed back and not beyond such times. In the event the accuracy of the meter is determined to be in error, then all testing and meter replacement charges shall be at the city's expense. (Ord. 2655 § 5, 2007: prior code § 59115)
