10.48.010: BETWEEN INTERSECTIONS; ESTABLISHMENT:¶
A. Pursuant to section 21106 of the Vehicle Code, whenever the city council determines upon the basis of a traffic engineering investigation that a crosswalk between intersections would facilitate the orderly movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the city council shall, by resolution, direct the traffic engineer to provide and maintain painted markings or other appropriately devised symbols or warning signs at all crosswalks which have been designated as such.
B. Whenever the city council finds upon the basis of a traffic engineering study that the conditions because of which a crosswalk has been provided and maintained as provided in subsection A of this section no longer exist, shall by resolution direct the traffic engineer to remove such markings, symbols or signs from such crosswalk. 10.48.020: AT INTERSECTIONS; ESTABLISHMENT:¶
A. The city council authorizes the traffic engineer to provide and maintain painted crosswalk markings or other appropriately devised symbols or warning signs at any intersection whenever a traffic engineering investigation indicates that such markings, symbols, or signs would facilitate the orderly movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
B. Whenever the traffic engineer upon the basis of a traffic engineering investigation finds that the conditions because of which painted crosswalk markings or other appropriately devised symbols or warning signs at any intersection have been provided and maintained as provided in subsection A of this section no longer exist, the traffic engineer shall remove such markings, symbols, or signs at such crosswalk. 10.48.030: PEDESTRIAN USE REQUIRED; WHERE:¶
No pedestrian shall cross a roadway other than by a crosswalk in the central traffic district or in any business district. (Prior code § 68103)
10.48.040: PEDESTRIAN TO CROSS AT RIGHT ANGLES:¶
No pedestrian shall cross a roadway at any place other than by a route right angles to the curb or by the shortest route to the opposite curb in a marked crosswalk. (Prior code § 68104)
