2.54.010: ESTABLISHED:

A free public library and reading room for the city is established under and by virtue of an act of the legislature of the state entitled "an act to establish free public libraries and reading rooms" approved April 26, 1880. (Prior code § 52100)

2.54.020: TRUSTEES:

There is a library board of trustees as established by ordinance 170 of the city. The board shall consist of five (5) trustees who shall be appointed by the mayor with the consent of the city council, and who shall have the powers and duties set forth in this section. The trustees shall hold office for three (3) years. Vacancies shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term in the same manner as the original appointments are made. In accordance with California Education Code section 18900 et seq., the board of library trustees shall manage the public library.

The trustees shall have the powers and perform the duties with regard to the public library and reading room and the care, management and control thereof, and of the books, property and funds belonging thereto, prescribed by the aforesaid act of the legislature and who shall in the exercise of their functions conform to and be governed by the provisions of the state Education Code. 2.54.030: BOOKS; USES AND PURPOSES DESIGNATED:

The books heretofore donated to the city by the Redlands public library and all other books, property and funds hereafter donated to the city for library purposes are and shall be devoted to the uses and purposes of the free public library and reading room. (Prior code § 52103)

2.54.040: BOOKS; TAKING AND DAMAGING PROHIBITED:

It is a misdemeanor for any person wilfully to injure any of the property pertaining to the public library and reading room or any books thereof or to carry any such books from the library room without proper authority. (Prior code § 52104)
