2.58.020: STATUTORY AUTHORITY:¶
This article is adopted pursuant to the authority granted to the city in California Government Code section 36503.5 to call general municipal elections for the same day as school district elections as set by California Elections Code section 2602. (Ord. 1809 § 1, 1983)
2.58.030: INTENT:¶
The intent of this article is to reduce the costs of conducting general municipal elections in the city by permitting the consolidation of the general municipal election with another election already to be held on the same date and to be conducted by the San Bernardino County registrar of voters. In addition, it is anticipated that there will be an increase in voter participation in the general municipal election because of this combination of elections. It is also anticipated that voter convenience will be served, and that some relief can be provided to the city clerk's office from potentially burdensome administrative work. (Ord. 1809 § 2, 1983)
2.58.040: APPLICABILITY:¶
This article will govern the calling of general municipal elections in the city unless and until repealed pursuant to California Government Code section 36503.5. (Ord. 1809 § 3, 1983)
2.58.050: DAY OF ELECTION DESIGNATED:¶
The general municipal election shall be held in the city on the same day as the regular election to select governing board members of the Redlands Unified School District, which is presently established by the district as the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even numbered year. (Ord. 2707 § 1, 2008)
2.58.060: RESOLUTION OF CONSOLIDATION:¶
At the same time a resolution calling a general municipal election hereunder is adopted, the San Bernardino County board of supervisors may be requested, by resolution, to order that the general municipal election for the city be consolidated with the regular election to select governing board members in the school district. Such resolution shall set forth the exact form of any question, proposition, or office to be voted upon at such election as the same is to appear on the ballot. (Ord. 1809 § 5, 1983)
2.58.070: FILING OF NOMINATION DOCUMENTS:¶
The period for the filing of nomination documents by candidates in each general municipal election for the city shall commence on the eighty ninth day prior to the election. The nomination documents shall be filed not later than five o'clock (5:00) P.M. on the sixty eighth day prior to the general election in the office of the city clerk of the city during regular office hours. (Ord. 1809 § 6, 1983)
