6.24.010 - Definitions.

For the purposes of this chapter the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section:

A. "Guest" means a person expressly invited by an organization or an individual member thereof, who is not required to pay an admission fee or to donate any money in order to attend the dance to which he has been invited.

B. "Nonprofit or charitable organization" means an organization which has qualified with the United States Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit or charitable organization within two years prior to the event which would otherwise come within the purview of this code, except for this qualification.

C. "Public dance" means a dance conducted in any hall, room, platform, pavilion, building or space in which admission is open to the general public, whether admission charge is made or not, wherein attendance is not restricted to members and guests of members of a nonprofit or charitable organization. This chapter shall not apply to restaurants, wherein the primary business of the establishment is the preparation and sale of food to be consumed on the premises and any dancing that is permitted is solely for the convenience of the restaurant patrons.

6.24.020 - Charge for readmission of minors required.

It is unlawful for any person or organization holding a public dance or operating a public dancehall to readmit any person under the age of eighteen years into the public dance or public dancehall, unless the holder thereof charges and collects from the person seeking readmission an admission charge not less than that charged to patrons entering the public dance or public dancehall for the first time.

6.24.030 - Loitering prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person or persons to loiter at or near the doors of any public dancehall or any place of assembly while a public dance is being conducted therein.

6.24.040 - Hours when prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person or persons or organization to operate a dancehall or to hold a public dance between the hours of one a.m. and twelve noon of any day.

6.24.050 - Uniformed security personnel required.

A. It is unlawful for any person or persons or organization to operate a public dance or a public dancehall, without providing at the person's or organization's expense a minimum of four uniformed employees of a company licensed under the State of California Private Investigator and Adjuster Act to keep the peace at such public dance or dancehall. Said uniformed employees shall have completed a course of training in the exercise of the powers to arrest and a course of training in the carrying and use of firearms, and said uniformed employees shall be licensed to carry firearms under the provisions of said Act and shall have completed the courses of training required by Section 7514.1 of the Business and Professions Code of the state. At least two of such employees shall patrol the parking areas in the immediate vicinity of the place where the dance is being held during the hours that the dance is in progress.

B. At least two of such employees shall patrol within the dancehall or dance area during the hours that the dance is in progress. One of the employees provided to meet these requirements shall be female.
