Chapter 17.110 — EMERGENCY SHELTERS

§ 17.110.010. Applicability.

All emergency shelters shall meet the following locational and operational standards.

  • A. A shelter shall not be located within 300 feet of another emergency shelter.

  • B. The number of beds shall not exceed more than one per 130 square feet of gross floor area.

  • C. Off-street parking shall be based on demonstrated need, but shelters shall not be required to provide more than one parking space per 200 square feet of gross floor area.

  • D. A shelter shall provide an interior waiting and intake area which contains a minimum of 200 square feet and an exterior on-site waiting area of no less than 200 square feet.

  • E. A shelter shall have 24-hour per day/seven days a week on-site management.

  • F. The maximum length of stay of any person shall be six months.

  • G. Appropriate exterior lighting shall be provided. The exterior lighting shall be stationary, directed away from adjacent properties and public rights-of-way, and with brightness or glare controlled to be compatible with the neighborhood.

  • H. A shelter shall provide security guards during the hours a shelter is open. (Ord. No. 1000 § 4, 2022)
