Placerville Municipal Code Ch. 13 Reserve Police Officers

California Penal Code Section 830.6(a)(2) provides that a city reserve police officer designated by local ordinance, either individually or by class, that is assigned to the prevention and detection of crime and the general enforcement of the laws of this state by that authority, and meeting the level 1 reserve police officer designation, is a peace officer as defined by California Penal Code Section 830.1.

The city council hereby authorizes the police chief to deputize reserve officers as designated level 1 officers, in his discretion and pursuant to state law. (Ord. 1663, 8-26-2014; amd. Ord. 1717, 3-12-2024)

Reserve officers shall receive financial remuneration for services rendered during specific events or assignments as directed by the chief of police.

The maximum rate of pay shall be equal to the hourly rate of a step A police officer without fringe benefits. (Ord. 1663, 8-26-2014)

The chief of police shall be the executive officer of the Placerville police department reserve. (Ord. 1663, 8-26-2014)

The coordinator of the reserve police shall be appointed from within the regular department to serve at the will and pleasure of the chief of police. (Ord. 1663, 8-26-2014)

The coordinator shall be responsible for the execution of all orders and rules governing the reserve police. The coordinator shall have the power to enforce all orders, written or verbal, issued by the chief of police. Members shall be governed by, and comply with, the provisions contained within the Placerville police department operations manual. (Ord. 1663, 8-26-2014)
