A. General Pool Rules.
All persons must obey rules and requests by the lifesaving personnel.
Friends and relatives may not visit lifesaving personnel during duty hours.
Distracting the attention of the lifeguard is dangerous and prohibited. Diversion of a guard's attention from duty could result in a fatality.
Lifeguards may not engage in any unnecessary conversation with anyone nor carry on any activity other than watching swimmers or performing other assigned duties.
While on deck, lifesaving personnel must constantly move around the facility with attention directed to swimmers both in the pool and on the deck.
Any lifeguard leaving the pool area or distracted for any reason must declare himself temporarily off duty if another guard is present and notify who is working with him or her that he or she is leaving his or her station.
Safety equipment or furniture must not be altered, moved, or used by unauthorized persons except in an emergency.
Floating apparatus, glass items, sticks, stones, or any objects which are not part of the regular programmed equipment are not allowed in the pool area. Ball playing on deck is prohibited.
Animals or pets of any kind are prohibited in the pool area.
Persons with colds, coughs, red or infected eyes, skin eruptions, open wounds, sores or bandages are not permitted in the pool area.
Persons under the influence of alcohol or narcotics are prohibited from using the pool. Drinking intoxicating liquors or using narcotics will result in the immediate dismissal of participating patrons.
Abusive or foul language is prohibited; such language is not in good taste and will offend other pool users.
Junior lifeguards or volunteers are subject to the direction of the pool manager.

Lying on deck close to the edge of the pool where bathers may trip over sunbathers is dangerous and prohibited.
Nonswimmers or weak swimmers must remain in the shallow water. In no case are they permitted in the deep water. When the lifeguard is in doubt of a swimmer's ability he or she must ask him to take the safety test, such as swimming a prescribed distance.
Dangerous practices are prohibited at all times. Patrons must not run on decks, climb, sit or jump from fences or structures not provided for such activity; double bounce or crowd springboards; dunk, push, pull or splash swimmers. Horseplay or wrestling on decks, ladders, springboards, or in the pool or dressing rooms is prohibited. Tag and horse-and-rider games are not allowed. Backdives are not allowed.
Spitting, spouting of water or blowing the nose in the pool is strictly prohibited.
No person may interfere with an emergency rescue, accident or drill procedure.
Emergency or exit signals must be observed. Swimmers must leave the pool area immediately upon the signal or request of pool personnel, counselors or group leaders. An emergency may exist in which all persons may need to cooperate.
C. Discipline. In order for rules to be effective, they should be brief and kept to a minimum. All rules should be posted in areas where the public can easily read them, and they should be adjacent to the places where they apply.
