9.08.010 Firearm defined.

“Firearm” includes and embraces every instrument or weapon referred to as a pistol, revolver, gun, shotgun, rifle, airgun, pellet gun, BB gun, or any instrument or weapon through which is expelled by force, explosion, combustion or other means, a projectile. (Ord. 168 § 2, 1980)

9.08.020 Firing or discharging firearm in city limits.

The firing or discharging of firearms within the limits of the city is prohibited. Every person who violates this provision by firing or discharging a firearm within the limits of the city is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be subject to a fine of not more than five hundred dollars or by imprisonment for a period of not more than six months, or both. (Ord. 168 § 1, 1980)

9.08.030 Police and defense of property exempted.

The prohibition set out in Section 9.08.020 shall have no application to police officers who fire or discharge weapons while in the performance of their duties, nor to any person while lawfully defending his person or property. (Ord. 168 § 3, 1980)

9.08.040 Permit for gun use in city.

Any person of lawful age may apply to the chief of police for a permit valid for not more than ten days from the date of issuance, for the use of a .22 caliber rifle or a shotgun within the city limits. The permit may be issued upon satisfactory evidence submitted to the chief that the use of the weapon is for a lawful purpose and that precautions will be taken to prevent injury to the person or property of others; provided, that the applicant shall have the right to request a review of the refusal by the city council. (Ord. 168 § 4, 1980)
