§ 6.20.010. No killing or butchering within residential areas.

No person shall kill or butcher any animal within a residential area of the city except as specifically provided in this chapter.

§ 6.20.020. Definitions.

For the purpose of this chapter, the following words and phrases shall have the meaning respectively ascribed to them by this section:

"Butcher"

means bleeding, eviscerating, skinning, splitting, cutting or carving the body, or any portion of the body, of an animal.

"Game birds"

means doves, quail, grouse, sage hens, partridges, pheasants, coots, gallinules and jacksnipe.

"Game mammals"

means deer, elk, prong-horned antelope, feral pigs, wild boars, bears, mountain lions, hares and tree squirrels.

"Residential area"

means any place located within an area zoned by the city as residential estate district, single-family residential, single-family attached patio homes, garden apartment district, multiple-family, institutional district or residential planned unit development district.

§ 6.20.030. Certain killings permitted.

Chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigeons, geese, game birds and rabbits may be killed in a residential area of the city provided:

A. The meat of such animal is for the personal consumption of the occupant of the property or his or her immediate family; and

B. The act of killing is not visible or audible off the property.

§ 6.20.040. Certain butchering permitted.

Chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigeons, geese, game birds, game mammals, goats, sheep, cattle and pigs may be butchered in a residential area of the city provided:

A. The meat of such animal is for the personal consumption of the occupant of the property or his or her immediate family; and

B. The act of butchering is not visible or audible off the property.
