14.56.010 - Increasing state speed limit in certain zones.

It is hereby determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law upon the following streets is less than is necessary for safe operation of vehicles thereon by reason of the designation and signposting of said streets as through highways and (or) by reason of widely spaced intersections, and it is hereby declared that the prima facie speed limit shall be as hereinafter set forth on those streets or parts of streets herein designated when signs are erected giving notice thereof:

1. Ardmore Avenue between 19th Street and Pacific Avenue 30 miles per hour
2. Ardmore Avenue between Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Boundary Place 30 miles per hour
3. Ardmore Avenue between Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Pacific Avenue 30 miles per hour
4. Ardmore Avenue between Pacific Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard 30 miles per hour
5. Aviation Boulevard between Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard 40 miles per hour
6. Aviation Boulevard between Marine Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard 40 miles per hour
7. Highland Avenue between Rosecrans Avenue and 45th Street 30 miles per hour
8. Reserved
9. Manhattan Beach Boulevard between Sepulveda Boulevard and Aviation Boulevard 35 miles per hour
10. Manhattan Beach Boulevard between Sepulveda Boulevard and Pacific Avenue 35 miles per hour
11. Manhattan Beach Boulevard between Valley Drive and Pacific Avenue 30 miles per hour
12. Marine Avenue between Magnolia Avenue and Aviation Boulevard 35 miles per hour
13. Marine Avenue between Sepulveda Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue 35 miles per hour
14. Rosecrans Avenue between Blanche Road and Aviation Boulevard 40 miles per hour

Said increased prima facie speed limits shall be effective as to said respective streets and portions of streets when authorized signs are in place giving notice thereof.

14.56.020 - Decrease of State law maximum speed.

It is hereby determined and declared, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, that the speed permitted by State law as applicable upon the following streets and portions of streets is greater than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist upon such respective streets and portions thereof, and it is hereby declared that the prima facie speed limit on said respective streets and portions of streets shall be as follows:

1. Aviation Boulevard between Rosecrans Avenue and Marine Avenue 40 miles per hour
2. Ocean Drive between Forty-fifth Street and First Street 15 miles per hour
3. Rosecrans Avenue between Highland Avenue and Blanche Road 35 miles per hour
4. Valley Drive between Blanche Road and Fifteenth Street 25 miles per hour
5. Valley Drive between Sepulveda Boulevard and Blanche Road 30 miles per hour
6. Valley Drive between Manhattan Beach Boulevard and the southerly city limits 30 miles per hour
7. Alma Avenue between Marine Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue 20 miles per hour

Said reduced prima facie speed limits shall be effective as to said respective streets and portions of streets when authorized signs are in place giving notice thereof.

14.56.030 - Regulation of speed by traffic signals.

The City traffic Engineer is authorized to regulate the timing of traffic signals so as to permit the movement of traffic in an orderly and safe manner at speeds slightly at variance from the speeds otherwise applicable within the district or at intersections and shall erect appropriate signs giving notice thereof.
