Sec. 28.20.355. - Taximeters—Required; manner of operation.¶
(a)
All taxicabs shall be equipped with an operable taximeter. The taximeter shall correctly and accurately indicate the legal charge for the distance traveled and waiting time. The taximeter shall be subject at all times to inspection by the Chief of Police.
(b)
When hauling passengers whose points of destination are different, the taximeter shall be turned back to "For Hire" position each time a passenger is discharged and a fare collected.

Sec. 28.20.360. - Same—Placement in vehicle.¶
Every taximeter shall be so placed in the taxicab that the reading dial showing the amount to be charged shall be well-lighted and readily discernible by the passenger riding in such taxicab.

Sec. 28.20.365. - Same—Inaccurate meter; use of vehicle without meter.¶
The Chief of Police is authorized at the instance of the Chief of Police or upon complaint of any person to investigate or cause to be investigated any taximeter, and upon the discovery of any inaccuracy in such taximeter, to remove or cause to be removed such vehicle equipped with such taximeter from the streets of the Town until such time as such taximeter shall have been correctly adjusted; provided, that the Chief of Police may in writing permit the operation of a taxicab unequipped with a taximeter on the terms and conditions, including rates, and for the time specified in such written permit, a copy of which permit shall be displayed in the passenger's compartment of such taxicab.

Sec. 28.20.370. - Rate card to be displayed.¶
There shall be displayed in the passenger compartment of each taxicab, in full view of the passenger, a card which shall have plainly printed thereon the name of the holder of the certificate of public convenience and necessity, or the fictitious name under which such holder operates, the business address and
telephone number of such holder and a correct schedule of the rates to be charged for conveyance in such vehicle.

Sec. 28.20.375. - Charges to be based on indication of taximeters.¶
All charges for transportation of passengers in taxicabs operated in the Town shall be based on the charges indicated on the taximeters thereof, and it shall be unlawful for any holder, driver or operator of any taxicab to charge any passenger any sum in excess of the sum indicated on the taximeter; provided, that the foregoing shall not apply to trips to or from points outside Town where the charge is fixed on a trip basis.
