§ 2-5.01. Disposal of unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property in the possession of the Police Department, which property remains unclaimed for a continuous period of six months, shall be disposed of by the Chief of Police by one of the following methods:

(a) Should the value of the unclaimed property be determined by the Chief of Police to be more than Five Hundred and No/100ths ($500.00) Dollars, the Council shall approve the manner of the disposition of such unclaimed property.

(b) All unclaimed cash and/or currency shall be deposited to the City Treasury.

(c) Items deemed to be of value to one of the City agencies shall be signed over to the appropriate department head for use as City-owned equipment.

(d) Items deemed to be of no value to the City, but appropriate for use or resale by a private individual or organization, shall be donated to a bona fide charitable organization.

(e) Items deemed to be dangerous or of no value to either the City or a bona fide charitable organization shall be destroyed.
