5.20.010 - Definitions.¶
As used in this chapter:
"Hotel" means and includes a motel, lodging house, rooming house or other building or structure maintained, advertised or held out to the public as a place where sleeping or rooming accommodations area furnished to the whole or any part of the public, whether with or without meals.
"Peace officer" means a peace officer as defined in Penal Code Sections 830 et seq.
"Person" means and includes every person, firm, partnership and corporation.

5.20.020 - Register required for hotels.¶
Every person who owns or operates a hotel shall keep a register in which shall be entered the name and address of each guest.

5.20.030 - Register retained for three years.¶
Every person who owns or operates a hotel shall keep the register which is required by Section 5.20.020 available and in good condition for a period of not less than three years from the entry of each name and address of each guest.

5.20.040 - Right of inspection.¶
Any peace officer, or other city official designated in writing by the city manager, shall have access to and right to inspect at any time any register kept by any hotel pursuant to Section 5.20.020.

5.20.050 - Violation—Penalty.¶
Every person, including but not limited to, the operator or owner of any hotel who denies, prevents, or obstructs or attempts to deny, prevent or obstruct, any peace officer in the examination of any register referred to in this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by not more than six months imprisonment in the county jail or by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or both such fine and imprisonment.
