§ 6.20.010. Animals roaming at large.

The humane officer, or other officer deputized by the chief of police, is authorized to capture and remove and keep in the city animal shelter any licensed dog which has injured or destroyed any real or personal property, or has molested or injured any person, or is running at large contrary to the provisions of this chapter, or any other domestic animal found roaming at large.

§ 6.20.020. Stray animals other than dogs or cats.

Any person taking up any stray domestic animal other than a dog or cat, or any such animal found running at large, shall surrender such animal to the humane officer or duly authorized representative, and if such animal is not claimed within five days from such impounding then the humane officer shall dispose of such animal in a manner as is provided for by law.

§ 6.20.030. Cooperation with county.

The humane officer shall pick up or accept and care for any animal to be held for observation by the county health officer.

§ 6.20.040. Report of person retaining possession of dog.

It is unlawful for any person not the owner thereof and without the consent of the owner thereof to hold or retain possession of any dog for a period of more than twenty-four hours without reporting the dog to the humane officer.

§ 6.20.050. Redemption of animals.

To redeem dogs and other animals from the animal shelter the following procedures are established:

A. Redemption of Licensed Dogs. The humane officer, upon receiving any dog wearing a current dog tag, shall within twenty-four hours, notify either by telephone or postcard with postage fully prepaid thereon, the person to whom the current dog tag was issued, of the whereabouts of such dog, which may be redeemed by the payment of a sum established from time to time by resolution of the city council.

B. Redemption of Unlicensed Dogs. Any person who proves to the satisfaction of the humane officer to be the owner of an unlicensed impounded dog, may redeem such dog by payment of a sum established from time to time by resolution of the city council.

C. Any person who proves to the satisfaction of the humane officer to be the owner of an animal other than a dog may redeem such animal from the city animal shelter by payment of a sum as determined by the humane officer.
