§ 6.08.010. Dog and cat defined.¶
"Cat,"
for the purpose of this chapter, means any feline more than four months of age.
"Dog,"
for the purpose of this chapter, means any canine more than four months of age.

§ 6.08.020. License required.¶
A. Every person owning or having custody or control of any dog or cat over the age of four months shall pay an annual license fee for each dog or cat. Any person keeping or harboring any dog or cat for fifteen consecutive days shall be deemed to be the owner thereof for the purpose of this chapter.
B. Any person who fails to obtain an annual license for each dog or cat as required by this section is guilty of an infraction.

§ 6.08.030. Fee—Generally.¶
The annual license fee for all dogs and cats shall be established from time to time by resolution of the city council.

§ 6.08.040. Fee—Payable when.¶
Each license provided for in this chapter shall expire at the end of the twelfth or twenty-fourth month after their issuance and shall become delinquent thirty days thereafter.

§ 6.08.050. Delinquent payment—Penalty.¶
Dog and cat licenses shall be renewed and the fees due and payable within thirty days of the expiration of the license. After the thirty-day period, a penalty of ten dollars shall be charged and collected in addition to the licensing fee. Such fee and penalty shall be collected upon the issuance of a new license if not applied for within thirty days after the dog or cat is brought into the city or comes into the possession of the owner.

§ 6.08.060. Receipt for license.¶
Whenever the license tags are issued and a license for any cat or dog other than a kennel license, there shall be shown on the receipt therefor the age of the dog or cat, the date of the latest vaccination and the type of the vaccination used as shown on the veterinarian's certificate, or, if the license was issued without proof of vaccination, the reason therefor.

§ 6.08.070. Lost license tags.¶
A duplicate or new license tag may be issued in the event the original license tag is lost or destroyed upon payment therefor the sum established from time to time by resolution of the city council.

§ 6.08.080. License from other jurisdictions.¶
Where a dog or cat has been validly licensed in another political subdivision of California and has been brought to the city, a new dog or cat tag and license shall be issued for the remainder of the license year upon payment of a sum to be established from time to time by resolution of the city council, provided compliance with all provisions of this chapter relating to rabies control and vaccination of dogs and cats can be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the humane officer.

§ 6.08.090. Exemption—Dog for blind.¶
A dog of either sex owned by a blind person shall be exempt from license providing the humane officer is shown some certificate executed on behalf of a recognized dog training institution which certifies that such dog has been successfully trained to lead the blind and upon proof of compliance with regulations contained in Chapter 6.12 of this title. Upon receipt of the required certificates, the humane officer shall issue a dog license for such dog without fee.

§ 6.08.100. Exemption—Dog honorably discharged from service.¶
A dog honorably discharged from the United States Service shall be exempt from license providing the humane officer is shown proof of discharge from the United States Service and upon proof of compliance with regulations contained in Chapter 6.12 of this title. Upon receipt of the required documents, the humane officer shall issue a dog license for such dog without fee.

§ 6.08.110. Tags.¶
The dog or cat tag issued by the humane officer for an individual dog or cat shall be securely affixed to a collar, harness or other device which shall at all times be worn by such dog or cat except when such dog or cat remains indoors or in any enclosed yard or pen.

§ 6.08.120. False tag prohibited.¶
It is unlawful for any person to attach to or keep on, or cause or permit to be attached to or kept upon any dog or cat, any dog or cat tag except the dog or cat tag issued for such dog or cat under the provisions of this chapter, or attach or keep upon or cause or permit to be attached to or kept upon any dog or cat or make or have in possession, any counterfeit or imitation of any dog or cat tag provided for in this chapter.

§ 6.08.130. Unauthorized removal of tag prohibited.¶
Any unauthorized person removing from any dog or cat, any collar or harness or other device to which is attached a dog or cat tag for the current year or removing such dog tag therefrom, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

§ 6.08.140. Unlawful to refuse to exhibit tag or license.¶
Any person upon whom any demand is made under authority of this chapter for the exhibition of any license or dog or cat tag who fails or refuses to exhibit the same if he or she has it in his or her possession is guilty of a misdemeanor.
