§ 6.30.010. Retirement of police canines.¶
Police canines utilized by the police department shall be retired from service when, in the opinion of the director of licensing and code enforcement, such police canines can no longer perform the law enforcement activities for which they were acquired by the police department.

§ 6.30.020. Disposition of retired police canines.¶
The director of licensing and code enforcement has sole discretion to dispose of any retired police canines in a humane manner, provided, however, that the following persons may in the discretion of the director of licensing and code enforcement be accorded an opportunity to take permanent custody of any retired police canine, in the following order of preference:
A. The police officer who has had custody of the retired canine for any period of time immediately preceding retirement of the canine;
B. Any police officer who has had custody of the retired canine, at any time during the canine's service to the police department, except as set forth in subsection A. In the event that more than one police officer has had custody of the retired canine, the police officer who has had custody for the greatest length of time shall have first preference;
C. The police officer who trained the retired canine.
