Hawaiian Gardens Municipal Code Ch. 7.08 Keeping of Certain Animals

No animal, domestic fowl or poultry may be kept or maintained by any person, firm, company or corporation within the City limits other than as expressly permitted by this chapter.

This chapter shall not prohibit the keeping or maintaining of domestic, household pets, including parrots or canaries, not more than three dogs or not more than three cats over the age of six months.

This chapter shall not prohibit the keeping or maintaining of cattle by any dairy where said dairy was established and in legal operation prior to the adoption of this chapter.

This chapter shall not prohibit the care or treatment of any animal by a licensed small animal hospital or kennel where the care or treatment of said animal is permitted by said license.

Any person, firm, company or corporation which, on the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter is keeping or maintaining animals, domestic fowl or poultry in violation of the provisions of this chapter, where the keeping or maintaining of said animals, domestic fowl or poultry was otherwise legal on the date of adoption of this chapter, shall be allowed a period of one year within which to remove any such animal, domestic fowl or poultry from said City. Any such nonconforming use shall terminate absolutely at the expiration of one year from the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter.

Any violation of any of the provisions of this chapter shall be punishable by a fine or not more than $1,000.00 or by imprisonment in the County jail for not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
